Saudi Arabia ↔ Bahrain
King Fahd Causeway Border Guide
The King Fahd Causeway is the road link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Both countries' passport and customs checks take place on an artificial island in the middle, so the border sits out at sea, not at either shore.
Information guide, not a booking page. Requirements change, so check the official sources below before travel.

What It Connects
- ›The Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia (Al Khobar, Dammam, Dhahran) with Bahrain
- ›Longer Saudi routes, such as from Riyadh or Makkah, that end at the causeway
- ›Bahrain with the wider GCC, since Bahrain has no other land link
Passengers Should Check
- A valid passport, or for eligible GCC citizens a national ID card where the countries accept it
- A visa or entry permission for the destination if your nationality needs one
- Residency documents if you live in one of the countries
- Saudi residents: an exit/re-entry visa to leave and return to Saudi Arabia
Vehicles May Need
- Vehicle registration, in the original
- Insurance that is valid in the destination country
- An authorization letter if the vehicle is not registered in the driver's name
- Insurance for Bahrain: KFCA's Jesr app offers vehicle insurance for the crossing
Requirements vary by nationality, residency, vehicle ownership, route and current rules. Verify them with the relevant authorities before travel.
Know Before You Go
Tolls and fees change
Published toll amounts differ between sources and have changed over time. Check the current toll with KFCA rather than relying on a figure you read elsewhere.
Peak days are busy
Weekends and holidays bring heavy traffic in both directions. Plan departure time with that in mind, without expecting a fixed crossing time.
Licensed taxis are a framework, not a guarantee
The 2026 taxi arrangement covers officially licensed taxis that meet technical requirements. It does not mean every car or driver can carry passengers across.
Common Mistakes
- Assuming Saudi car insurance covers Bahrain
- Leaving Saudi Arabia as a resident without a valid exit/re-entry visa
- Relying on an old toll figure
- Not carrying an authorization letter for a vehicle that is not in your name
